For I know the kṣatriya’s heart as an enduring principle—spoken by the ancients and by those yet more ancient, and likewise affirmed by later authorities.

english translation

Any kṣatriya born here who knows kṣatriya-dharma should bow to no one—neither out of fear nor from calculating livelihood and advantage.

english translation

Even if he were cut down, he should not bow; for exertion itself is manliness. Even if he were to break before his time, he should not bow to anyone here.

english translation

Let him move about like an intoxicated elephant, of very great spirit; yet let him always bow to the brāhmaṇas and to Dharma alone, O Saṃjaya.

english translation

Restraining the other varṇas and suppressing all wrongdoing—whether with allies or without—he should remain so throughout life.
