O King, like that of a mere reciter of sacred texts—slow and undiscerning—your intellect, constrained by rote formulae, looks only to dharma in a single, narrow sense.
english translation
Consider your dharma in light of how Svayaṃbhū, the Self-born, created you. The kṣatriya was formed from the chest, living by the strength of the arms—ever for stern duties: the protection and governance of the people.
english translation
Listen here to a single illustrative account I heard from elders. Long ago, Vaiśravaṇa, being pleased, offered this earth to the royal sage Mucukunda; yet he did not accept it.
english translation
“I desire to enjoy a kingdom earned by the strength of my own arms.” Thereupon Vaiśravaṇa became pleased and astonished.
english translation
Then King Mucukunda governed the earth—rightly won by his own might—faithfully adhering to kṣatriya-dharma.
