बहुवर्षसहस्रान्तं प्रजापालनवर्धितम् । अनेकक्रतुदानौघैरर्जितं मे महत्फलम्॥५-१२१-११॥
Over many thousands of years, enlarged through the protection of my subjects and amassed through streams of sacrifices and gifts, I earned a great reward.
english translation
कथं तदल्पकालेन क्षीणं येनास्मि पातितः । भगवन्वेत्थ लोकांश्च शाश्वतान्मम निर्जितान्॥५-१२१-१२॥
How was it exhausted in so short a time—the merit by which I was made to fall? O Revered One, you know the everlasting realms I had won.

पितामह उवाच । बहुवर्षसहस्रान्तं प्रजापालनवर्धितम् । अनेकक्रतुदानौघैर्यत्त्वयोपार्जितं फलम्॥५-१२१-१३॥
The Pitāmaha said: That reward you amassed over many thousands of years—expanded through the protection of your subjects and through abundant sacrifices and gifts—
english translation
तदनेनैव दोषेण क्षीणं येनासि पातितः । अभिमानेन राजेन्द्र धिक्कृतः स्वर्गवासिभिः॥५-१२१-१४॥
That was exhausted by this very fault, by which you were made to fall: through pride, O lord of kings, you were censured by the inhabitants of heaven.

नायं मानेन राजर्षे न बलेन न हिंसया । न शाठ्येन न मायाभिर्लोको भवति शाश्वतः॥५-१२१-१५॥
This enduring realm is not secured by self-regard, O royal seer; not by force, not by harmful conduct; not by deceit, nor by manipulative stratagems does a world become lasting.
