किमिदं भवता प्राप्तमिहागमनजं फलम् । वासोऽयमिह कालं तु कियन्तं नौ भविष्यति॥५-१११-६॥
“What is this outcome you have met with here, the fruit of coming to this place? And for how long will our stay here continue?”
english translation
किं नु ते मनसा ध्यातमशुभं धर्मदूषणम् । न ह्ययं भवतः स्वल्पो व्यभिचारो भविष्यति॥५-१११-७॥
“What inauspicious, dharma-corrupting intention did you contemplate in your mind? For this deviation on your part will not be a minor one.”
english translation
सुपर्णोऽथाब्रवीद्विप्रं प्रध्यातं वै मया द्विज । इमां सिद्धामितो नेतुं तत्र यत्र प्रजापतिः॥५-१११-८॥
Then Suparṇa said to the brāhmaṇa: “O twice-born, I truly formed this resolve—to carry this accomplished lady from here to the place where Prajāpati is.”
english translation
यत्र देवो महादेवो यत्र विष्णुः सनातनः । यत्र धर्मश्च यज्ञश्च तत्रेयं निवसेदिति॥५-१११-९॥
“Where the god Mahādeva is, where Viṣṇu the eternal is, where Dharma and sacrifice are—there, I thought, she should dwell.”
english translation
सोऽहं भगवतीं याचे प्रणतः प्रियकाम्यया । मयैतन्नाम प्रध्यातं मनसा शोचता किल॥५-१११-१०॥
“Therefore I, bowing down, petitioned that revered lady out of desire for what is pleasing. Indeed, I formed this plan while my mind was troubled.”
