That quarter where, first, the daughters of Dakṣa indeed brought forth progeny; and in that direction the self-born descendants of Kaśyapa likewise flourished.

english translation

From that quarter the prosperity of the gods has its root; there Śakra (Indra) was consecrated. There, O brahmarṣi, the gods practiced tapas—holy austerity—together with their sovereignty.

english translation

For this reason, O brāhmaṇa, this quarter is called “the East” (pūrvā): because in an earlier age it was the first to be encompassed and occupied by the gods.

english translation

For this very reason, the men of old looked toward the eastern quarter; and one who seeks well-being should first undertake the prior prescribed rites and actions, held to be divinely sanctioned.

english translation

Here, in former times, the Blessed One—benefactor of the worlds—sang the Vedas. Here itself, among the expounders of brahman, Savitṛ taught the Sāvitrī (Gāyatrī).
