“What dakṣiṇā shall I offer you for the teacher’s due? For a human undertaking truly succeeds when it is accompanied by dakṣiṇā.”

english translation

“For offerings duly given are enjoyed even through the path of liberation; in heaven the virtuous partake of the fruit of sacrifice. Dakṣiṇā is also called ‘pacification’ (śānti). What shall I bring for my teacher’s sake? Let the venerable one declare it.”

english translation

But the venerable one, knowing his intent and won over by his service, Viśvāmitra urged him again and again: “Go, go.”

english translation

Repeatedly addressed by Viśvāmitra—“Go, go”—Gālava again and again replied, “What shall I give as the due offering?”

english translation

But as the ascetic Gālava pressed him repeatedly, Viśvāmitra—somewhat stirred to impatience—said this.
