Having been saluted by all beings, and consoling all beings, Vāsava—his adversary overcome and his mind uplifted—together with the deities, worshipped Viṣṇu, the foremost in the three worlds, as one who understood dharma.

english translation

Then, after the mighty Vṛtra—who had been a source of fear to the gods—was overcome, Śakra became oppressed by untruth and fell into deep dejection; earlier too he had been burdened by the fault of brahmahatyā in relation to Triśīrṣa.

english translation

Taking refuge at the edge of the worlds, senseless and without awareness, the lord of the gods could not be recognized, being overwhelmed by his own impurities; concealed, he dwelt in the waters, moving as if like a serpent.

english translation

Then, when Devendra had vanished, distressed by fear of brahmahatyā, the earth appeared devastated—treeless, with forests dried up; rivers had their currents cut off, and lakes too became without water.

english translation

And there arose agitation among living beings, caused by the lack of rain. The gods too were greatly alarmed, as were all the great Ṛṣis.
