ततः शरसहस्रेण संक्रुद्धो रावणात्मजः । बिभेद समरे वीरो लक्ष्मणं भीमविद्रमः ॥ ६-८९-२१
Then enraged Ravana's son endowed with terrific valour pierced Lakshmana with a thousand arrows. [6-89-21]
english translation
व्यशीर्यत महद्दिव्यं कवचम् लक्ष्मणस्य तु । कृतप्रतिकृतान्योन्यं बभूवतुरभिद्रुतौ ॥ ६-८९-२२
Lakshmana's mighty and wonderful shield also got shattered. Both took offense as well as retaliated each other moving swiftly. [6-89-22]

अभीक्षणम् निःश्वसन्तौ तौ युध्येतां तुमुलं युधि । शरसंकृत्तसर्वाङ्गौ सर्वतो रुधिरोक्षितौ ॥ ६-८९-२३
Wounded all over the body in war and bathed in blood, breathing heavily again and again both of them fought vehemently. [6-89-23]

सुदीर्घकालं तौ वीरावन्योन्यं निशितैः शरैः । ततक्षतुर्महत्मानौ रणकर्मविशारदौ ॥ ६-८९-२४
Both heroes, being experts in fighting, tore each other with sharp arrows for long. [6-89-24]

बभूवतुश्चात्मजये यतौ भीमपराक्रमौ । तौ शरौघै स्तथाकीर्णौ निकृत्तकवचध्वजौ ॥ ६-८९-२५
Both of them of terrible valour, each of them wanting to win, moving together their armour and standards torn - [6-89-25]
