[य] भूय एवाहम इच्छामि महर्षेस तस्य धीमतः कर्मणां विस्तरं शरॊतुम अगस्त्यस्य दविजॊत्तम ॥ ३-९८-१ ॥

'Yudhishthira said, "O foremost of Brahmanas, I am eager once more to hear in detail about the remarkable achievements of Agastya, that illustrious Rishi of great intelligence."' ॥ 3-98-1 ॥

english translation

[ya] bhUya evAhama icchAmi maharSesa tasya dhImataH karmaNAM vistaraM zaròtuma agastyasya davijòttama ॥ 3-98-1 ॥

[लॊमष] शृणु राजन कथां दिव्याम अद्भुताम अतिमानुषीम अगस्त्यस्य महाराज परभावम अमितात्मनः ॥ ३-९८-२ ॥

'Lomasa said, "Listen now, O king, to the excellent, wonderful, and extraordinary history of Agastya, as well as the unmatched prowess of that Rishi endowed with boundless energy."' ॥ 3-98-2 ॥

[lòmaSa] zRNu rAjana kathAM divyAma adbhutAma atimAnuSIma agastyasya mahArAja parabhAvama amitAtmanaH ॥ 3-98-2 ॥

आसन कृतयुगे घॊरा दानवा युद्धदुर्मदाः कालेया इति विख्याता गणाः परमदारुणाः ॥ ३-९८-३ ॥

'In the Krita age, there were certain tribes of fierce Danavas, invincible in battle, and renowned by the name of Kalakeyas. Endued with terrible prowess, they were a formidable force.' ॥ 3-98-3 ॥

Asana kRtayuge ghòrA dAnavA yuddhadurmadAH kAleyA iti vikhyAtA gaNAH paramadAruNAH ॥ 3-98-3 ॥

ते तु वृत्रं समाश्रित्य नानाप्रहरणॊद्यताः समन्तात पर्यधावन्त महेन्द्र परमुखान सुरान ॥ ३-९८-४ ॥

'Placing themselves under Vritra's command and arming themselves with a variety of weapons, they relentlessly pursued the celestials, led by Indra, in every direction.' ॥ 3-98-4 ॥

te tu vRtraM samAzritya nAnApraharaNòdyatAH samantAta paryadhAvanta mahendra paramukhAna surAna ॥ 3-98-4 ॥

ततॊ वृत्रवधे यत्नम अकुर्वंस तरिदशाः पुरा पुरंदरं पुरस्कृत्य बरह्माणम उपतस्थिरे ॥ ३-९८-५ ॥

'The gods, having resolved upon the destruction of Vritra, approached Brahma with Indra leading them. Seeing them standing before him with folded hands, Parameshthi (Brahma) addressed them, saying .' ॥ 3-98-5 ॥

tatò vRtravadhe yatnama akurvaMsa taridazAH purA puraMdaraM puraskRtya barahmANama upatasthire ॥ 3-98-5 ॥
