रूपौदर्यगुणॊपेतां मण्डनार्हाम अमण्डिताम चन्द्रलेखाम इव नवां वयॊम्नि नीलाभ्रसंवृताम ।। ३-६५-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'Endowed with beauty and a generous spirit, yet lacking ornaments despite being worthy of them, she resembles a crescent moon 'newly arrived in the harbor,' shrouded in dark clouds.' ।। 3-65-16 ।।

english translation

rUpaudaryaguNòpetAM maNDanArhAma amaNDitAma candralekhAma iva navAM vayòmni nIlAbhrasaMvRtAma || 3-65-16 ||

hk transliteration

कामभॊगैः परियैर हीनां हीनां बन्धुजनेन च देहं धारयतीं दीनां भर्तृदर्शनकाङ्क्षया ।। ३-६५-१७ ।।

sanskrit

'Deprived of comforts and luxuries, and separated from her loved ones and friends, she lives in distress, sustained solely by the hope of seeing her lord.' ।। 3-65-17 ।।

english translation

kAmabhògaiH pariyaira hInAM hInAM bandhujanena ca dehaM dhArayatIM dInAM bhartRdarzanakAGkSayA || 3-65-17 ||

hk transliteration

भर्ता नाम परं नार्या भूषणं भूषणैर विना एषा विरहिता तेन शॊभनापि न शॊभते ।। ३-६५-१८ ।।

sanskrit

'Indeed, a husband is a woman's greatest adornment, surpassing any material ornament. Though this lady is beautiful, she does not shine without her husband by her side.' ।। 3-65-18 ।।

english translation

bhartA nAma paraM nAryA bhUSaNaM bhUSaNaira vinA eSA virahitA tena zòbhanApi na zòbhate || 3-65-18 ||

hk transliteration

दुष्करं कुरुते ऽतयर्थं हीनॊ यद अनया नलः धारयत्य आत्मनॊ देहं न शॊकेनावसीदति ।। ३-६५-१९ ।।

sanskrit

'It is indeed a remarkable feat for Nala to endure life without succumbing to grief while separated from such a wife.' ।। 3-65-19 ।।

duSkaraM kurute 'tayarthaM hInò yada anayA nalaH dhArayatya Atmanò dehaM na zòkenAvasIdati || 3-65-19 ||

hk transliteration

इमाम असितकेशान्तां शतपत्रायतेक्षणाम सुखार्हां दुःखितां दृष्ट्वा ममापि वयथते मनः ।। ३-६५-२० ।।

sanskrit

'Beholding this damsel with black hair and eyes like the leaves of a lotus, steeped in sorrow yet deserving of joy, my heart aches with compassion.' ।। 3-65-20 ।।
