स तवम आतिष्ठ यॊगं तं येन शीघ्रा हया मम भवेयुर अश्वाध्यक्षॊ ऽसि वेतनं ते शतं शताः ॥ ३-६४-६ ॥
'Therefore, devise a plan to make my steeds fleet. I appoint you the superintendent of my stables, and your pay shall be ten thousand coins.' ॥ 3-64-6 ॥

तवाम उपस्थास्यतश चेमौ नित्यं वार्ष्णेयजीवलौ एताभ्यां रंस्यसे सार्धं वस वै मयि बाहुक ॥ ३-६४-७ ॥
'Both Varshneya and Jivala shall always be under your direction, and you will enjoy a pleasant life in their company. Therefore, O Vahuka, remain with me.' ॥ 3-64-7 ॥

एवम उक्तॊ नलस तेन नयवसत तत्र पूजितः ऋतुपर्णस्य नगरे सहवार्ष्णेयजीवलः ॥ ३-६४-८ ॥
'Vrihadaswa continued, "Thus addressed by the king, Nala began to reside in the city of Rituparna, where he was treated with respect, accompanied by Varshneya and Jivala."' ॥ 3-64-8 ॥

स तत्र निवसन राजन वैदर्भीम अनुचिन्तयन सायं सायं सदा चेमं शलॊकम एकं जगाद ह ॥ ३-६४-९ ॥
'And while residing there, King Nala, recalling the princess of Vidarbha, recited the following verse every evening:' ॥ 3-64-9 ॥

कव नु सा कषुत्पिपासार्ता शरान्ता शेते तपस्विनी समरन्ती तस्य मन्दस्य कं वा साद्यॊपतिष्ठति ॥ ३-६४-१० ॥
'Where lies that helpless one, tormented by hunger and thirst, exhausted from her toil, thinking of that wretch? And upon whom does she now wait?' ॥ 3-64-10 ॥
