देवानां मानुषं मध्ये यत सा पतिम अविन्दत ननु तस्या भवेन नयाय्यं विपुलं दण्डधारणम ॥ ३-५५-६ ॥
'Since she has chosen a mortal as her lord in the presence of the celestials, it is only fitting that she should face a severe punishment.' ॥ 3-55-6 ॥

एवम उक्ते तु कलिना परत्यूचुस ते दिवौकसः अस्माभिः समनुज्ञातॊ दमयन्त्या नलॊ वृतः ॥ ३-५५-७ ॥
'Upon hearing Kali's words, the celestials responded, 'It is with our consent that Damayanti has chosen Nala.'' ॥ 3-55-7 ॥

कश च सर्वगुणॊपेतं नाश्रयेत नलं नृपम यॊ वेद धर्मान अखिलान यथावच चरितव्रतः ॥ ३-५५-८ ॥
'What damsel would not choose King Nala, endowed with every virtue? He is well-versed in all duties, consistently upholding righteousness.' ॥ 3-55-8 ॥

यस्मिन सत्यं धृतिर दानं तपः शौचं दमः शमः धरुवाणि पुरुषव्याघ्रे लॊकपालसमे नृपे ॥ ३-५५-९ ॥
'In whom truth, steadfastness, charity, austerity, purity, self-control, and tranquility Are firmly established, in that tiger among men, the king who is equal to the Lokapalas.' ॥ 3-55-9 ॥

आत्मानं स शपेन मूढॊ हन्याच चात्मानम आत्मना एवंगुणं नलं यॊ वै कामयेच छपितुं कले ॥ ३-५५-१० ॥
'O Kali, the fool who wishes to curse Nala, who possesses such noble qualities, only curses himself and brings about his own destruction through his actions.' ॥ 3-55-10 ॥
