पार्थिवैः सुमहाभागैर यज्वभिर भूरिदक्षिणैः दैवतैर वा समारॊढुं दानवैर वा रथॊत्तमम ॥ ३-४३-१६ ॥

'Even kings of great prosperity, renowned for their grand sacrifices and abundant gifts to Brahmanas, as well as the gods and formidable Danavas, are not worthy to ride this chariot.' ॥ 3-43-16 ॥

pArthivaiH sumahAbhAgaira yajvabhira bhUridakSiNaiH daivataira vA samAròDhuM dAnavaira vA rathòttamama ॥ 3-43-16 ॥

नातप्त तपसा शक्य एष दिव्यॊ महारथः दरष्टुं वाप्य अथ वा सप्रष्टुम आरॊढुं कुत एव तु ॥ ३-४३-१७ ॥

तवयि परतिष्ठिते साधॊ रथस्थे सथिरवाजिनि पश्चाद अहम अथारॊक्ष्ये सुकृती सत्पथं यथा ॥ ३-४३-१८ ॥

'O blessed Matali, once you have mounted it and the horses have come to a halt, I will step aboard, akin to a virtuous man embarking on the righteous path.' ॥ 3-43-18 ॥

tavayi paratiSThite sAdhò rathasthe sathiravAjini pazcAda ahama athAròkSye sukRtI satpathaM yathA ॥ 3-43-18 ॥

[वै] तस्य तद वचनं शरुत्वा मातलिः शक्रसारथिः आरुरॊह रथं शीघ्रं हयान येमे च रश्मिभिः ॥ ३-४३-१९ ॥

'Vaisampayana continued, "Matali, the charioteer of Sakra, upon hearing Arjuna's words, quickly mounted the chariot and skillfully took hold of the reins, guiding the celestial horses with precision."' ॥ 3-43-19 ॥

[vai] tasya tada vacanaM zarutvA mAtaliH zakrasArathiH Aruròha rathaM zIghraM hayAna yeme ca razmibhiH ॥ 3-43-19 ॥

ततॊ ऽरजुनॊ हृष्टमना गङ्गायाम आप्लुतः शुचिः जजाप जप्यं कौन्तेयॊ विधिवत कुरुनन्दनः ॥ ३-४३-२० ॥

'With a joyful heart, Arjuna bathed in the sacred waters of the Ganges, purifying himself. The son of Kunti silently recited his customary prayers with devotion.' ॥ 3-43-20 ॥
