ततः कैलासनिलयॊ धनाध्यक्षॊ ऽभयभाषत दत्तेष्व अस्त्रेषु दिव्येषु वरुणेन यमेन च ॥ ३-४२-३१ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, "After Varuna and Yama had bestowed their celestial weapons, the lord of treasures, residing in the heights of Kailasa, then addressed Arjuna, saying:"' ॥ 3-42-31 ॥

सव्यसाचिन महाबाहॊ पूर्वदेव सनातन सहास्माभिर भवाञ शरान्तः पुराकल्पेषु नित्यशः ॥ ३-४२-३२ ॥
'O son of Pandu, O thou of great strength and wisdom, I am also pleased with you. This encounter brings me as much joy as meeting Krishna himself. O ambidextrous wielder of the bow, O mighty-armed one, you were once a god, eternal like the other deities.' ॥ 3-42-32 ॥

मत्तॊ ऽपि तवं गृहाणास्त्रम अन्तर्धानं परियं मम ओजस तेजॊ दयुतिहरं परस्वापनम अरातिहन ॥ ३-४२-३३ ॥
'In ancient Kalpas, you practiced ascetic austerities daily alongside us. O best of men, I bestow upon you celestial vision. With your mighty arms, you shall vanquish even the invincible Daityas and Danavas.' ॥ 3-42-33 ॥

ततॊ ऽरजुनॊ महाबाहुर विधिवत कुरुनन्दनः कौबेरम अपि जग्राह दिव्यम अस्त्रं महाबलः ॥ ३-४२-३४ ॥
'Then Arjuna, the mighty-armed son of Kuru, duly received from Kuvera that divine weapon, endowed with great power.' ॥ 3-42-34 ॥

ततॊ ऽबरवीद देवराजः पार्थम अक्लिष्टकारिणम सान्त्वयञ शलक्ष्णया वाचा मेघदुन्दुभि निस्वनः ॥ ३-४२-३५ ॥
'After these words were spoken, the Kuru prince Arjuna, endowed with immense strength, received the celestial weapon from Kuvera. The chief of the celestials then addressed Pritha's son, renowned for his relentless deeds, in a voice deep as thunder or the sound of a kettle-drum, saying:' ॥ 3-42-35 ॥
