अथ मेघस्वनॊ धीमान वयाजहार शुभां गिरम यमः परमधर्मज्ञॊ दक्षिणां दिशम आस्थितः ॥ ३-४२-१६ ॥
'Then Yama, endowed with great intelligence and fully versed in virtue, positioned on a southern summit, spoke these auspicious words in a voice as deep as thunderclouds.' ॥ 3-42-16 ॥

अर्जुनार्जुन पश्यास्माँल लॊकपालान समागतान दृष्टिं ते वितरामॊ ऽदय भवान अर्हॊ हि दर्शनम ॥ ३-४२-१७ ॥
'Arjuna, behold us, the protectors of the worlds, gathered here! We shall grant you divine vision, for you are truly worthy of this sight.' ॥ 3-42-17 ॥

पूर्वर्षिर अमितात्मा तवं नरॊ नाम महाबलः नियॊगाद बरह्मणस तात मर्त्यतां समुपागतः तवं वासव समुद्भूतॊ महावीर्यपराक्रमः ॥ ३-४२-१८ ॥
'You, O mighty one, were the ancient Rishi of immeasurable soul, known as Nara. At the command of Brahma, you have now come into the mortal realm. O sinless one, by your hand shall the virtuous grandsire of the Kurus—Bhishma, born of the Vasus and endowed with great energy—be defeated in battle.' ॥ 3-42-18 ॥

कषत्रं चाग्निसमस्पर्शं भारद्वाजेन रक्षितम दानवाश च महावीर्या ये मनुष्यत्वम आगताः निवातकवचाश चैव संसाध्याः कुरुनन्दन ॥ ३-४२-१९ ॥
'You shall also overcome all the Kshatriyas of fiery energy commanded by the son of Bharadwaja in battle. You will vanquish the mighty Danavas who have taken on human form, as well as the formidable Nivatakavachas.' ॥ 3-42-19 ॥

पितुर ममांशॊ देवस्य सर्वलॊकप्रतापिनः कर्णः स सुमहावीर्यस तवया वध्यॊ धनंजय ॥ ३-४२-२० ॥
'Furthermore, O Dhananjaya, scion of the Kuru race, you shall slay Karna, a fierce warrior who is a portion of my father Surya, renowned for his boundless energy throughout the worlds.' ॥ 3-42-20 ॥
