[वै] तस्य संपश्यतस तव एव पिनाकी वृषभध्वजः जगामादर्शनं भानुर लॊकस्येवास्तम एयिवान ॥ ३-४२-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, "The wielder of the Pinaka, whose emblem was the bull, vanished before the eyes of the watching son of Pandu, much like the sun sinking below the horizon, disappearing from the sight of the world."' ॥ 3-42-1 ॥
english translation
ततॊ ऽरजुनः परं चक्रे विस्मयं परवीरहा मया साक्षान महादेवॊ दृष्ट इत्य एव भारत ॥ ३-४२-२ ॥
'Arjuna, the slayer of enemy heroes, marveled greatly at this and said, 'Alas, I have beheld the great god of gods!' ॥ 3-42-2 ॥
english translation
धन्यॊ ऽसम्य अनुगृहीतॊ ऽसमि यन मया तर्यम्बकॊ हरः पिनाकी वरदॊ रूपी दृष्टः सपृष्टश च पाणिना ॥ ३-४२-३ ॥
'How fortunate am I, truly blessed, for I have both seen and touched with my own hands the three-eyed Hara, the wielder of the Pinaka, in his form of granting boons.' ॥ 3-42-3 ॥
english translation
कृतार्थं चावगच्छामि परम आत्मानम आत्मना शत्रूंश च विजितान सर्वान निर्वृत्तं च परयॊजनम ॥ ३-४२-४ ॥
'I shall achieve victory. I am already mighty. My enemies have been defeated, and my goals have been accomplished.' ॥ 3-42-4 ॥

ततॊ वैडूर्य वर्णाभॊ भासयन सर्वतॊदिशः यादॊगणवृतः शरीमान आजगाम जलेश्वरः ॥ ३-४२-५ ॥
'And while Arjuna, endowed with boundless energy, was reflecting on these matters, Varuna, the god of waters, arrived at that place. He was handsome, radiant like lapis lazuli, and accompanied by various aquatic creatures, illuminating all directions with his brilliant effulgence.' ॥ 3-42-5 ॥
