अपेयात किल भाः सूर्याल लक्ष्मीश चन्द्रमसस तथा इति लॊके वयवसितॊ दृष्ट्वेमां भवतॊ वयथाम ॥ ३-३४-७१ ॥

'O king, a Kshatriya cannot attain the blessed realms through asceticism alone, as he can through fair combat, whether victorious or not. Seeing your current distress, the world concludes that it is as if light might abandon the Sun to favor the Moon.' ॥ 3-34-71 ॥

english translation

भवतश च परशंसाभिर निन्दाभिर इतरस्य च कथा युक्ताः परिषदः पृथग राजन समागताः ॥ ३-३४-७२ ॥

'And, O king, virtuous people, whether alone or gathered together, discuss and converse, praising you while criticizing others.' ॥ 3-34-72 ॥

english translation

इदम अभ्यधिकं राजन बराह्मणा गुरवश च ते समेताः कथयन्तीह मुदिताः सत्यसंधताम ॥ ३-३४-७३ ॥

'Moreover, O monarch, both the Kurus and the Brahmanas, having assembled together, speak with pleasure of your steadfast commitment to truth.' ॥ 3-34-73 ॥

english translation

यन न मॊहान न कार्पण्यान न लॊभान न भयाद अपि अनृतं किं चिद उक्तं ते न कामान नार्थकारणात ॥ ३-३४-७४ ॥

'None of the following—delusion, miserly behavior, greed, or fear—has prompted any falsehood from you.' ॥ 3-34-74 ॥

english translation

यद एनः कुरुते किं चिद राजा भूमिम इवाप्नुवन सर्वं तन नुदते पश्चाद यज्ञैर विपुलदक्षिणैः ॥ ३-३४-७५ ॥

'Whatever sins a king might incur while acquiring dominion, he expiates them through sacrifices accompanied by great gifts.' ॥ 3-34-75 ॥
