पुरा सृष्टनि भूतानि पीड्यन्ते कषुधया भृशम ततॊ ऽनुकम्पया तेषां सविता सवपिता इव ॥ ३-३-५ ॥

sanskrit

'In ancient times, all living beings were severely afflicted by hunger. Out of compassion, Savita (the Sun), like a father to his children, took action.' ॥ 3-3-5 ॥

english translation

purA sRSTani bhUtAni pIDyante kaSudhayA bhRzama tatò 'nukampayA teSAM savitA savapitA iva ॥ 3-3-5 ॥
