[यक्स] किं नु हित्वा परियॊ भवति किं नु हित्वा न शॊचति किं नु हित्वार्थवान भवति किं नु हित्वा सुखी भवेत ॥ ३-२९७-५६ ॥
'The Yaksha asked: “What is that which, when renounced, makes a person lovable? What is that which, when renounced, brings no regret? What is that which, when renounced, leads to true wealth? And what is that which, when renounced, brings lasting happiness?”' ॥ 3-297-56 ॥
english translation
[य] मानं हित्वा परियॊ भवति करॊधं हित्वा न शॊचति कामं हित्वार्थवान भवति लॊभं हित्वा सुखू भवेत ॥ ३-२९७-५७ ॥
'Yudhishthira answered: “Pride, when renounced, makes one agreeable. Anger, when renounced, leads to freedom from regret. Desire, when renounced, brings true wealth. And greed, when renounced, brings happiness.”' ॥ 3-297-57 ॥

[यक्स] मृतं कथं सयात पुरुषः कथं राष्ट्रं मृतं भवेत शराधं मृतं कथं च सयात कथं यज्ञॊ मृतॊ भवेत ॥ ३-२९७-५८ ॥
'The Yaksha asked: How does a person become dead? How does a kingdom become dead? How does a śrāddha (ancestral ritual) become dead? How does a sacrifice become dead?' ॥ 3-297-58 ॥

[य] मृतॊ दरिद्रः पुरुषॊ मृतं राष्ट्रम अराजकम मृतम अश्रॊत्रियं शराद्धं मृतॊ यज्ञॊ तव अदक्षिणः ॥ ३-२९७-५९ ॥
'Yudhishthira answered: “A man without wealth is as good as dead. A kingdom without a king is lifeless. A śrāddha performed with an unlearned priest is fruitless. And a sacrifice that offers no gifts to the Brahmanas is devoid of merit.”' ॥ 3-297-59 ॥

[यक्स] का दिक किम उदकं परॊक्तं किम अन्नं पार्थ किं विषम शराद्धस्य कालम आख्याहि ततः पिब हरस्व च ॥ ३-२९७-६० ॥
'The Yaksha asked: “What is the true path? What is spoken of as water? What is considered food, and what is called poison? Tell me also—what is the proper time for performing a śrāddha? Answer these, and then you may drink and take as much as you desire.”' ॥ 3-297-60 ॥
