कौन्तेय यदि वै परश्नान मयॊक्तान परतिपत्स्यसे ततः पास्यसि पानीयं हरिष्यसि च भारत ॥ ३-२९६-२६ ॥

'O Kaunteya, if you can answer the questions I ask, then—and only then—may you drink the water and take as much as you need, O Bharata.' ॥ 3-296-26 ॥

english translation

वारितस तव अब्रवीत पार्थॊ दृश्यमानॊ निवारय यावद बाणैर विनिर्भिन्नः पुनर नैवं वदिष्यसि ॥ ३-२९६-२७ ॥

'Thus warned, the son of Pritha said, 'If you wish to stop me, then appear before me! Once you are sorely pierced by my arrows, you will no longer speak to me in this manner again.'' ॥ 3-296-27 ॥

english translation

एवम उक्त्वा ततः पार्थः शरैर अस्त्रानुमन्त्रितैः ववर्ष तां दिशं कृत्स्नां शब्दवेधं च दर्शयन ॥ ३-२९६-२८ ॥

'Having said this, Partha (Arjuna) filled all directions with arrows imbued with sacred mantras. He demonstrated his mastery of the art of striking an unseen target guided by sound alone. ' ॥ 3-296-28 ॥

english translation

कर्णिनालीकनाराचान उत्सृजन भरतर्षभ अनेकैर इषुसंघातैर अन्तरिक्षं ववर्ष ह ॥ ३-२९६-२९ ॥

'And, O bull of the Bharata race, tormented by intense thirst, he let loose barbed darts, javelins, and iron-tipped arrows, sending a storm of invincible shafts into the sky—none of which could be countered. ' ॥ 3-296-29 ॥

english translation

[यक्स] किं विघातेन ते पार्थ परश्नान उक्त्वा ततः पिब अनुक्त्वा तु ततः परश्नान पीत्वैव न भविष्यसि ॥ ३-२९६-३० ॥

'Thereupon, the unseen Yaksha said, "Why take all this trouble, O son of Pritha? Simply answer my questions, and then you may drink. But if you drink without replying, you shall die instantly."' ॥ 3-296-30 ॥
