नाहत्वा हि महाबाहॊ शत्रून एति करं पुनः सा शक्तिर देवराजस्य शतशॊ ऽथ सहस्रशः ॥ ३-२८६-१६ ॥
'For know this, O mighty-armed one: that dart of the lord of the celestials never returns to the hand that hurls it without slaying enemies by the hundreds and thousands!' ॥ 3-286-16 ॥
english translation
[वै] एवम उक्त्वा सहस्रांशुः सहसान्तरधीयत ततः सूर्याय जप्यान्ते कर्णः सवप्नं नयवेदयत ॥ ३-२८६-१७ ॥
'Vaiśampāyana continued: "Having spoken thus, the thousand-rayed deity suddenly vanished. On the following day, after completing his prayers, Karna reverently recounted his dream to the Sun."' ॥ 3-286-17 ॥

यथादृष्टं यथातत्त्वं यथॊक्तम उभयॊर निशि तत सर्वम आनुपूर्व्येण शशंसास्मै वृषस तदा ॥ ३-२८६-१८ ॥
'And Vrisha (Karna) faithfully related to him the vision he had seen, along with all that had transpired between them during the night.' ॥ 3-286-18 ॥

तच छरुत्वा भगवान देवॊ भानुः सवर्भानु सूदनः उवाच तं तथेत्य एव कर्णं सूर्यः समयन्न इव ॥ ३-२८६-१९ ॥
'Thereupon, having heard everything, the resplendent and divine Surya—the foe of Swarbhanu—smiled and said, ‘It is even so.’' ॥ 3-286-19 ॥

ततस तत्त्वम इति जञात्वा राधेयः परवीरहा शक्तिम एवाभिकाङ्क्षन वै वासवं परत्यपालयत ॥ ३-२८६-२० ॥
'Then, Radha’s son, the slayer of hostile heroes, understanding all that had taken place and eager to obtain the celestial dart, remained awaiting the arrival of Vasava.' ॥ 3-286-20 ॥
