यद्य आगच्छति शक्रॊ मां बराह्मण छद्मनावृतः हितार्थं पाण्डुपुत्राणां खेचरॊत्तम भिक्षितुम ।। ३-२८४-२६ ।।

sanskrit

'If, O foremost of sky-roaming beings, Shakra himself comes to me in the guise of a Brahmana, seeking alms for the sake of the Pandavas.' ।। 3-284-26 ।।

english translation

yadya Agacchati zakrò mAM barAhmaNa chadmanAvRtaH hitArthaM pANDuputrANAM khecaròttama bhikSituma || 3-284-26 ||

दास्यामि विबुधश्रेष्ठ कुण्डले वर्म चॊत्तमम न मे कीर्तिः परणश्येत तरिषु लॊकेषु विश्रुता ।। ३-२८४-२७ ।।

sanskrit

'Then, O lord of the celestials, I shall give him my earrings and my excellent mail—so that the fame I have won throughout the three worlds may not diminish.' ।। 3-284-27 ।।

english translation

dAsyAmi vibudhazreSTha kuNDale varma còttamama na me kIrtiH paraNazyeta tariSu lòkeSu vizrutA || 3-284-27 ||

मद्विधस्यायशस्यं हि न युक्तं पराणरक्षणम युक्तंहि यशसा युक्तं मरणं लॊकसंमतम ।। ३-२८४-२८ ।।

sanskrit

'For persons such as us, it is not right to preserve life through a shameful act. Rather, it is proper to embrace death in a manner approved by the world and crowned with honour.' ।। 3-284-28 ।।

english translation

madvidhasyAyazasyaM hi na yuktaM parANarakSaNama yuktaMhi yazasA yuktaM maraNaM lòkasaMmatama || 3-284-28 ||

सॊ ऽहम इन्द्राय दास्यामि कुण्डले सह वर्मणा यदि मां बलवृत्रघ्नॊ भिक्षार्थम उपयास्यति ।। ३-२८४-२९ ।।

sanskrit

'Therefore, I shall bestow upon Indra my earrings along with my coat of mail. If the slayer of Vala and Vritra himself comes to beg them of me for the sake of the Pandavas,let it bring glory to me—and shame to him!' ।। 3-284-29 ।।

sò 'hama indrAya dAsyAmi kuNDale saha varmaNA yadi mAM balavRtraghnò bhikSArthama upayAsyati || 3-284-29 ||

'If for the Pandavas' sake he asks my earrings as a gift, Then fame shall be mine in all the world—and shame shall fall to him.' ।। 3-284-30 ।।
