[मार्क] ततः शरुत्वा हतं संख्ये कुम्भकर्णं सहानुगम परहस्तं च महेष्वासं धूम्राक्षं चातितेजसम ॥ ३-२७२-१ ॥
'Markandeya said, "Upon learning that Kumbhakarna, along with his followers, had fallen in battle, as well as the mighty warrior Prahasta and the radiant Dhumraksha of great energy ."' ॥ 3-272-1 ॥

पुत्रम इन्द्रजितं शूरं रावणः परत्यभाषत जहि रामम अमित्रघ्न सुग्रीवं च सलक्ष्मणम ॥ ३-२७२-२ ॥
'Ravana then addressed his valiant son, Indrajit, saying, "O vanquisher of enemies, slay Rama, Sugriva, and Lakshmana in battle!"' ॥ 3-272-2 ॥

तवया हि मम सत पुत्र यशॊ दीप्तम उपार्जितम जित्वा वज्रधरं संख्ये सहस्राक्षं शचीपतिम ॥ ३-२७२-३ ॥
'My noble son, it is through you that my resplendent fame was earned, by vanquishing in battle Indra, the wielder of the thunderbolt and the thousand-eyed Lord of Shachi!' ॥ 3-272-3 ॥

अन्तर्हितः परकाशॊ वा दिव्यैर दत्तवरैः शरैः जहि शत्रून अमित्रघ्न मम शस्त्रभृतां वर ॥ ३-२७२-४ ॥
'With the power to appear and vanish at will, slay my enemies, O destroyer of foes, using your celestial arrows, granted as boons, for you are the foremost of all wielders of weapons!' ॥ 3-272-4 ॥

रामलक्ष्मण सुग्रीवाः शरस्पर्शं न ते ऽनघ समर्थाः परतिसंसॊढुं कुतस तद अनुयायिनः ॥ ३-२७२-५ ॥
'Rama, Lakshmana, and Sugriva cannot even withstand the mere touch of your weapons— what, then, can be said of their followers?' ॥ 3-272-5 ॥
