हंससारसयुक्तेन किङ्किणीजालमालिना कामगेन विचित्रेण दिव्यगन्धवता तथा ॥ ३-२४६-३१ ॥

'Upon a chariot yoked with swans and cranes, adorned with a delicate arrangement of bells, fragrant with divine scents, painted in a picturesque manner, and endowed with the power to travel anywhere at will.' ॥ 3-246-31 ॥

उवाच चैनं विप्रर्षिं विमानं कर्मभिर जितम समुपारॊह संसिद्धिं पराप्तॊ ऽसि परमां मुने ॥ ३-२४६-३२ ॥

'And the celestial messenger addressed the Brahmana sage, saying, 'O sage, ascend this chariot, earned by your deeds. You have attained the fruits of your asceticism!'' ॥ 3-246-32 ॥

uvAca cainaM viprarSiM vimAnaM karmabhira jitama samupAròha saMsiddhiM parAptò 'si paramAM mune ॥ 3-246-32 ॥

तम एवं वादिनम ऋषिर देवदूतम उवाच ह इच्छामि भवता परॊक्तान गुणान सवर्गनिवासिनाम ॥ ३-२४६-३३ ॥

'As the divine messenger spoke thus, the sage replied, 'O celestial messenger, I wish you would describe to me the attributes of those who reside there.'' ॥ 3-246-33 ॥

tama evaM vAdinama RSira devadUtama uvAca ha icchAmi bhavatA paròktAna guNAna savarganivAsinAma ॥ 3-246-33 ॥

के गुणास तत्र वसतां किं तपॊ कश च निश्चयः सवर्गे सवर्गसुखं किं च दॊषॊ वा देवदूतक ॥ ३-२४६-३४ ॥

'What are their austerities, and what are their aims? And, O messenger of the gods, what constitutes happiness in heaven, and what are its drawbacks?' ॥ 3-246-34 ॥

ke guNAsa tatra vasatAM kiM tapò kaza ca nizcayaH savarge savargasukhaM kiM ca dòSò vA devadUtaka ॥ 3-246-34 ॥

सतां सप्त वदं मित्रम आहुः सन्तः कुलॊचिताः मित्रतां च पुरस्कृत्य पृच्छामि तवाम अहं विभॊ ॥ ३-२४६-३५ ॥

'It is said by virtuous people of noble lineage that friendship with the pious is established by walking just seven paces with them. O lord, in the name of that friendship, I ask you .' ॥ 3-246-35 ॥

satAM sapta vadaM mitrama AhuH santaH kulòcitAH mitratAM ca puraskRtya pRcchAmi tavAma ahaM vibhò ॥ 3-246-35 ॥
