'Thus, O bull of the Bharata race, the hope of the wicked-minded son of Dhritarashtra to conquer the Pandavas was further strengthened.' ॥ 3-240-31 ॥

कर्णॊ ऽपय आविष्ट चित्तात्मा नरकस्यान्तर आत्मना अर्जुनस्य वधे करूराम अकरॊत स मतिं तदा ॥ ३-२४०-३२ ॥
'Karna, his soul and faculties overtaken by the essence of Naraka, had at that time cruelly resolved to slay Arjuna.' ॥ 3-240-32 ॥

संशप्तकाश च ते वीरा राक्षसाविष्ट चेतसः रजस तमॊभ्याम आक्रान्ताः फल्गुनस्य वधैषिणः ॥ ३-२४०-३३ ॥
'And those heroes, the Samsaptakas, having their minds possessed by the Rakshasas and influenced by the qualities of passion and darkness, were intent on slaying Phalguna.' ॥ 3-240-33 ॥

भीष्मद्रॊणकृपाद्याश च दानवाक्रान्त चेतसः न तथा पाण्डुपुत्राणां सनेहवन्तॊ विशां पते न चाचचक्षे कस्मै चिद एतद राजा सुयॊधनः ॥ ३-२४०-३४ ॥
'And, O king, others, with Bhishma, Drona, and Kripa at their head, whose hearts were influenced by the Danavas, became less affectionate towards the sons of Pandu than they had been. However, King Suyodhana did not reveal this to anyone.' ॥ 3-240-34 ॥

दुर्यॊधनं निशान्ते च कर्णॊ वैकर्तनॊ ऽबरवीत समयन्न इवाञ्जलिं कृत्वा पार्थिवं हेतुमद वचः ॥ ३-२४०-३५ ॥
'When the night had passed, Karna, the son of the Sun, with folded hands and a smile, addressed king Duryodhana with these wise words:' ॥ 3-240-35 ॥
