[दानवाह] भॊः सुयॊधन राजेन्द्र भरतानां कुलॊद्वह शूरैः परिवृतॊ नित्यं तथैव च महात्मभिः ॥ ३-२४०-१ ॥
'The Danavas said, 'O Suyodhana, O great king! O upholder of the Bharata lineage! Thou art ever surrounded by mighty heroes and noble souls.'' ॥ 3-240-1 ॥
english translation
[dAnavAha] bhòH suyòdhana rAjendra bharatAnAM kulòdvaha zUraiH parivRtò nityaM tathaiva ca mahAtmabhiH ॥ 3-240-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअकार्षीः साहसम इदं कस्मात परायॊपवेशनम आत्मत्यागी हय अवाग याति वाच्यतां चायशस्करीम ॥ ३-२४०-२ ॥
'Why, then, have you undertaken such a reckless act as the vow of starvation? One who takes his own life falls into the depths of hell and becomes the subject of scorn and reproach.' ॥ 3-240-2 ॥
english translation
akArSIH sAhasama idaM kasmAta parAyòpavezanama AtmatyAgI haya avAga yAti vAcyatAM cAyazaskarIma ॥ 3-240-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन हि कार्यविरुद्धेषु बह्व अपायेषु कर्मसु मूलघातिषु सज्जन्ते बुद्धिमन्तॊ भवद्विधाः ॥ ३-२४०-३ ॥
'Wise men, who understand their own best interests, never engage in actions that are both sinful and self-destructive, undermining the very goals they seek to achieve.' ॥ 3-240-3 ॥

na hi kAryaviruddheSu bahva apAyeSu karmasu mUlaghAtiSu sajjante buddhimantò bhavadvidhAH ॥ 3-240-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनियच्छैतां मतिं राजन धर्मार्थसुखनाशिनीम यशः परताप धैर्यघ्नीं शत्रूणां हर्षवर्धनीम ॥ ३-२४०-४ ॥
'Restrain this resolve of thine, O king, for it leads to the ruin of righteousness, prosperity, and joy; it diminishes fame, valor, and strength while bringing delight to thy enemies.' ॥ 3-240-4 ॥

niyacchaitAM matiM rAjana dharmArthasukhanAzinIma yazaH paratApa dhairyaghnIM zatrUNAM harSavardhanIma ॥ 3-240-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशरूयतां च परभॊ तत्त्वं दिव्यतां चात्मनॊ नृप निर्माणं च शरीरस्य ततॊ धैर्यम अवाप्नुहि ॥ ३-२४०-५ ॥
'O illustrious monarch, remember the divine origin of thy soul and the creator of thy form—let patience and fortitude now be thy guides.' ॥ 3-240-5 ॥

zarUyatAM ca parabhò tattvaM divyatAM cAtmanò nRpa nirmANaM ca zarIrasya tatò dhairyama avApnuhi ॥ 3-240-5 ॥
