सवपुरं परययौ राजा चतुरङ्ग बलानुगः शॊकॊपहतया बुद्ध्या चिन्तयानः पराभवम ॥ ३-२३६-६ ॥
'And the king, accompanied by his four divisions of forces, proceeded towards his city, his heart rent with grief and filled with thoughts of his defeat.' ॥ 3-236-6 ॥
english translation
savapuraM parayayau rAjA caturaGga balAnugaH zòkòpahatayA buddhyA cintayAnaH parAbhavama ॥ 3-236-6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविचुम्य पथि यानानि देशे सुयवसॊदके संनिविष्टः शुभे रम्ये भूमिभागे यथेप्सितम हस्त्यश्वरथपातातं यथास्थानं नयवेशयत ॥ ३-२३६-७ ॥
'Along the way in a region that abounded in grass and water, the king encamped on a delightful piece of ground as pleased him best, with his elephants, chariots, cavalry, and infantry stationed all around.' ॥ 3-236-7 ॥
english translation
vicumya pathi yAnAni deze suyavasòdake saMniviSTaH zubhe ramye bhUmibhAge yathepsitama hastyazvarathapAtAtaM yathAsthAnaM nayavezayata ॥ 3-236-7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअथॊपविष्टं राजानं पर्यङ्के जवलनप्रभे उपप्लुतं यथा सॊमं राहुणा रात्रिसंक्षये उपगम्याब्रवीत कर्णॊ दुर्यॊधनम इदं तदा ॥ ३-२३६-८ ॥
'And as King Duryodhana was seated on an elevated bedstead, endowed with the effulgence of fire, looking like the moon during an eclipse, Karna, approaching him towards the small hours of the morning, said;' ॥ 3-236-8 ॥

athòpaviSTaM rAjAnaM paryaGke javalanaprabhe upaplutaM yathA sòmaM rAhuNA rAtrisaMkSaye upagamyAbravIta karNò duryòdhanama idaM tadA ॥ 3-236-8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदिष्ट्या जीवसि गान्धारे दिष्ट्या नः संगमः पुनः दिष्ट्या तवया जिताश चैव गन्धर्वाः कामरूपिणः ॥ ३-२३६-९ ॥
'Fortunate it is, O son of Gandhari, that thou art alive! Fortunate it is, that we have once more met! By good luck it is that thou hast vanquished the Gandharvas, capable of assuming any form at will.' ॥ 3-236-9 ॥
english translation
diSTyA jIvasi gAndhAre diSTyA naH saMgamaH punaH diSTyA tavayA jitAza caiva gandharvAH kAmarUpiNaH ॥ 3-236-9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदिष्ट्या समग्रान पश्यामि भरातॄंस ते कुरुनन्दन विजिगीषून रणान मुक्तान निर्जितारीन महारथान ॥ ३-२३६-१० ॥
'And, O son of the Kuru race, it is by good luck alone that I am enabled to see thy brothers—mighty warriors all—come off victorious from that encounter, having subjugated their foes!' ॥ 3-236-10 ॥

diSTyA samagrAna pazyAmi bharAtRRMsa te kurunandana vijigISUna raNAna muktAna nirjitArIna mahArathAna ॥ 3-236-10 ॥
