[वै] ततॊ दिव्यास्त्रसंपन्ना गन्धर्वा हेममालिनः विसृजन्तः शरान दीप्तान समन्तात पर्यवारयन ॥ ३-२३४-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, "Then, the Gandharvas, adorned with golden garlands and wielding celestial weapons, unleashed their blazing arrows as they surrounded the Pandavas from all directions."' ॥ 3-234-1 ॥
english translation
चत्वारः पाण्डवा वीरा गन्धर्वाश च सहस्रशः रणे संन्यपतन राजंस तद अद्भुतम इवाभवत ॥ ३-२३४-२ ॥
'Since the sons of Pandu numbered only four, while the Gandharvas were countless, the battle that ensued seemed truly extraordinary.' ॥ 3-234-2 ॥
english translation
यथा कर्णस्य च रथॊ धार्तराष्ट्रस्य चॊभयॊः गन्धर्वैः शतशॊ छिन्नौ तथा तेषां परचक्रिरे ॥ ३-२३४-३ ॥
'Just as the chariots of Karna and Duryodhana had once been shattered into a hundred pieces by the Gandharvas, so too did they attempt to break the chariots of the four heroes.' ॥ 3-234-3 ॥
english translation
तान समापततॊ राजन गन्धर्वाञ शतशॊ रणे परत्यगृह्णन नरव्याघ्राः शरवर्षैर अनेकशः ॥ ३-२३४-४ ॥
'However, those tigers among men faced a relentless onslaught of Gandharvas, thousands upon thousands, charging at them with a barrage of arrows.' ॥ 3-234-4 ॥
english translation
अवकीर्यमाणाः खगमाः शरवर्षैः समन्ततः न शेकुः पाण्डुपुत्राणां समीपे परिवर्तितुम ॥ ३-२३४-५ ॥
'Those sky-rangers, endowed with great energy, were so repelled on all sides by the downpour of arrows that they could not even come near the sons of Pandu.' ॥ 3-234-5 ॥
