कथम अग्निः पुनर अहं भवेयम इति चिन्त्य सः अपश्यद अग्निवल लॊकांस तापयन्तं महामुनिम ॥ ३-२०७-११ ॥

'He then considered how he could re-establish himself as the god of fire. He beheld the great muni giving heat to the whole universe like fire, and approached him slowly with fear.' ॥ 3-207-11 ॥

english translation

kathama agniH punara ahaM bhaveyama iti cintya saH apazyada agnivala lòkAMsa tApayantaM mahAmunima ॥ 3-207-11 ॥

सॊपासर्पच छनैर भीतस तम उवाच तदाङ्गिराः शीघ्रम एव भवस्वाग्निस तवं पुनर लॊकभावनः विज्ञातश चासि लॊकेषु तरिषु संस्थान चारिषु ॥ ३-२०७-१२ ॥

'But Angiras said to him, "Quickly re-establish yourself as the fire that animates the universe. You are well-known in the three stable worlds."' ॥ 3-207-12 ॥

english translation

sòpAsarpaca chanaira bhItasa tama uvAca tadAGgirAH zIghrama eva bhavasvAgnisa tavaM punara lòkabhAvanaH vijJAtaza cAsi lòkeSu tariSu saMsthAna cAriSu ॥ 3-207-12 ॥

तवम अग्ने परथमः सृष्टॊ बरह्मणा तिमिरापहः सवस्थानं परतिपद्यस्व शीघ्रम एव तमॊनुद ॥ ३-२०७-१३ ॥

'And you were first created by Brahma to dispel darkness. O destroyer of darkness, quickly take your rightful place.' ॥ 3-207-13 ॥

english translation

tavama agne parathamaH sRSTò barahmaNA timirApahaH savasthAnaM paratipadyasva zIghrama eva tamònuda ॥ 3-207-13 ॥

[अग्नि] नष्टकीर्तिर अहं लॊके भवाञ जातॊ हुताशनः भवन्तम एव जञास्यन्ति पावकं न तु मां जनाः ॥ ३-२०७-१४ ॥

'Agni replied, "My reputation has now been tarnished in this world. You have taken my place as the fire-god, and people will recognize you, not me, as the true fire."' ॥ 3-207-14 ॥

english translation

[agni] naSTakIrtira ahaM lòke bhavAJa jAtò hutAzanaH bhavantama eva jaJAsyanti pAvakaM na tu mAM janAH ॥ 3-207-14 ॥

निक्षिपाम्य अहम अग्नित्वं तवम अग्निः परथमॊ भव भविष्यामि दवितीयॊ ऽहं पराजापत्यक एव च ॥ ३-२०७-१५ ॥

'I have relinquished my role as the fire-god. You shall become the primeval fire, and I will take on the role of the second fire, known as the Prajapatyaka fire.' ॥ 3-207-15 ॥

nikSipAmya ahama agnitvaM tavama agniH parathamò bhava bhaviSyAmi davitIyò 'haM parAjApatyaka eva ca ॥ 3-207-15 ॥
