अध्याक्रम्य पशूं चापि घनन्ति वै भक्षयन्ति च वृक्षान अथौषधीश चैव अछिन्दन्ति पुरुषा दविज ॥ ३-१९९-२१ ॥
'O Brahmana, men hunt wild animals, kill them, and consume their meat. They also chop down trees and destroy herbs.' ॥ 3-199-21 ॥
english translation
जीवा हि बहवॊ बरह्मन वृक्षेषु च फलेषु च उदके बहवश चापि तत्र किं परतिभाति ते ॥ ३-१९९-२२ ॥
'But, O Brahmana, countless living organisms inhabit the trees, fruits, and even water. Do you not agree?' ॥ 3-199-22 ॥
english translation
सर्वं वयाप्तम इदं बरह्मन पराणिभिः पराणिजीवनैः मत्स्या गरसन्ते मत्स्यांश च तत्र किं परतिभाति ते ॥ ३-१९९-२३ ॥
'This entire creation, O Brahmana, is filled with living beings, each sustaining itself with food derived from other organisms. Do you not notice that fish prey upon fish?' ॥ 3-199-23 ॥
english translation
सत्त्वैः सत्त्वानि जीवन्ति बहुधा दविजसत्तम पराणिनॊ ऽनयॊन्यभक्षाश च तत्र किं परतिभाति ते ॥ ३-१९९-२४ ॥
'O best of the Brahmanas, living beings sustain each other in various ways. Some creatures feed on others—do you not see this?' ॥ 3-199-24 ॥
english translation
चङ्क्रम्यमाणा जीवांश च धरणी संश्रितान बहून पद्भ्यां घनन्ति नरा विप्र तत्र किं परतिभाति ते ॥ ३-१९९-२५ ॥
'O Brahmana, men, while walking here and there, unknowingly kill countless creatures hidden in the ground by trampling on them—do you not see this?' ॥ 3-199-25 ॥
