कच चित सौते न ते मॊहः शाल्वं दृष्ट्वा महाहवे विषादॊ वा रणं दृष्ट्वा बरूहि मे तवं यथातथम ॥ ३-१९-६ ॥
'Have you been bewildered by the fierce Salwa, or disheartened by the battle? Tell me truly what is in your mind!' ॥ 3-19-6 ॥
english translation
[सूत] जानार्दने न मे मॊहॊ नापि मे भयम आविशत अतिभारं तु ते मन्ये शाल्वं केशवनन्दन ॥ ३-१९-७ ॥
'The charioteer replied, "O son of Janardana, I am neither confused nor fearful. On the contrary, I believe the task of defeating Salwa is a formidable challenge for you!"' ॥ 3-19-7 ॥

सॊ ऽपयामि शनैर वीर बलवान एष पापकृत मॊहितश च रणे शूरॊ रक्ष्यः सारथिना रथी ॥ ३-१९-८ ॥
'Hence, I am gradually withdrawing from the field. This wretch is stronger than you. A charioteer must safeguard his warrior, especially when he is incapacitated.' ॥ 3-19-8 ॥

आयुष्मंस तवं मया नित्यं रक्षितव्यस तवयाप्य अहम रक्षितव्यॊ रथी नित्यम इति कृत्वापयाम्य अहम ॥ ३-१९-९ ॥
'O, thou who art blessed with longevity, thou shouldst always be protected by me, even as it is my duty to protect thee. Considering that it is essential for the charioteer to safeguard the warrior on the chariot, I am withdrawing thee from the battle.' ॥ 3-19-9 ॥
english translation
एकश चासि महाबाहॊ बहवश चापि दानवाः नसमं रौक्मिणेयाहं रणं मत्वापयाम्य अहम ॥ ३-१९-१० ॥
'Furthermore, O mighty-armed one, thou art alone, while the Danavas are numerous. Believing that thou art not equal to them in this encounter, I am retreating!' ॥ 3-19-10 ॥
