पराप्नुवन्ति नरा विप्र यत्कृत्वा कर्मशॊभनम सत्यं दानं तपॊ चॊग्रम अहिंसा चैव जन्तुषु ।। ३-१८७-२१ ।।

sanskrit

'And, O Brahmana, whatever is attained by men through the practice of truth, charity, ascetic austerities, peace, harmlessness toward all creatures, and other virtuous deeds, is attained by my divine arrangement.' ।। 3-187-21 ।।

english translation

parApnuvanti narA vipra yatkRtvA karmazòbhanama satyaM dAnaM tapò cògrama ahiMsA caiva jantuSu || 3-187-21 ||

मद्विधानेन विहिता मम देहविहारिणः मयाभिभूत विज्ञाना विचेष्टन्ते न कामतः ।। ३-१८७-२२ ।।

sanskrit

'Governed by my ordinance, men wander within my body, their senses overwhelmed by me. They move not according to their will but as they are directed by me.' ।। 3-187-22 ।।

english translation

madvidhAnena vihitA mama dehavihAriNaH mayAbhibhUta vijJAnA viceSTante na kAmataH || 3-187-22 ||

सम्यग वेदम अधीयाना यजन्तॊ विविधैर मखैः शान्तात्मानॊ जितक्रॊधाः पराप्नुवन्ति दविजातयः ।। ३-१८७-२३ ।।

sanskrit

'Regenerate Brahmanas who have thoroughly studied the Vedas, who possess tranquillity in their souls, and who have subdued their wrath, attain a great reward through their numerous sacrifices.' ।। 3-187-23 ।।

english translation

samyaga vedama adhIyAnA yajantò vividhaira makhaiH zAntAtmAnò jitakròdhAH parApnuvanti davijAtayaH || 3-187-23 ||

पराप्तुं न शक्यॊ यॊ विद्वन नरैर दुष्कृतकर्मभिः लॊभाभिभूतैः कृपणैर अनार्यैर अकृतात्मभिः ।। ३-१८७-२४ ।।

sanskrit

'That reward, however, is unattainable by men who are wicked in their deeds, overwhelmed by covetousness, mean and disreputable, with souls unblessed and impure.' ।। 3-187-24 ।।

english translation

parAptuM na zakyò yò vidvana naraira duSkRtakarmabhiH lòbhAbhibhUtaiH kRpaNaira anAryaira akRtAtmabhiH || 3-187-24 ||

तं मां महाफलं विद्धि पदं सुकृतकर्मणः दुष्प्रापं विप्र मूढानां मार्गं यॊगैर निषेवितम ।। ३-१८७-२५ ।।

sanskrit

'Therefore, O Brahmana, know that this reward, which is attainable only through asceticism, and which can be obtained by those who have their souls under control, is beyond the reach of the ignorant and the foolish. It leads to great merit.' ।। 3-187-25 ।।

english translation

taM mAM mahAphalaM viddhi padaM sukRtakarmaNaH duSprApaM vipra mUDhAnAM mArgaM yògaira niSevitama || 3-187-25 ||
