अभिमानस्य घॊरस्य बलस्य च नराधिप फले कषीणे महाराज फलं पुण्यम अवाप्स्यसि ॥ ३-१७८-४१ ॥

'O King, when the fruits of your terrible pride and might are exhausted, You will, O great ruler, attain the rewards of your virtue.' ॥ 3-178-41 ॥

english translation

abhimAnasya ghòrasya balasya ca narAdhipa phale kaSINe mahArAja phalaM puNyama avApsyasi ॥ 3-178-41 ॥

ततॊ मे विस्मयॊ जातस तद दृष्ट्वा तपसॊ बलम बरह्म च बराह्मणत्वं च येन तवाहम अचूचुदम ॥ ३-१७८-४२ ॥

'I was awestruck by the power of his austere virtues, which inspired my deep reverence. It is for this reason that I have sought to question you about the qualities of the Supreme Spirit and the virtues of Brahmanas.' ॥ 3-178-42 ॥

english translation

tatò me vismayò jAtasa tada dRSTvA tapasò balama barahma ca barAhmaNatvaM ca yena tavAhama acUcudama ॥ 3-178-42 ॥

सत्यं दमस तपॊयॊगम अहिंसा दाननित्यता साधकानि सदा पुंसां न जातिर न कुलं नृप ॥ ३-१७८-४३ ॥

'Truth, charity, self-restraint, penance, non-violence, and steadfastness in virtue—these, O King, are the true means by which a man secures salvation, not his lineage or family connections.' ॥ 3-178-43 ॥

satyaM damasa tapòyògama ahiMsA dAnanityatA sAdhakAni sadA puMsAM na jAtira na kulaM nRpa ॥ 3-178-43 ॥

अरिष्ट एष ते भराता भीमॊ मुक्तॊ महाभुजः सवस्ति ते ऽसतु महाराज गमिष्यामि दिवं पुनः ॥ ३-१७८-४४ ॥

'May your brother, the mighty Bhimasena, be blessed with good fortune, and may happiness dwell with you! I must now return to Heaven.' ॥ 3-178-44 ॥

ariSTa eSa te bharAtA bhImò muktò mahAbhujaH savasti te 'satu mahArAja gamiSyAmi divaM punaH ॥ 3-178-44 ॥

[वै] इत्य उक्त्वाजगरं देहं तयक्त्वा स नहुषॊ नृपः दिव्यं वपुः समास्थाय गतस तरिदिवम एव ह ॥ ३-१७८-४५ ॥

'Vaisampayana continued, "Having spoken thus, King Nahusha shed his serpentine form and, assuming his divine shape, ascended once more to Heaven."' ॥ 3-178-45 ॥

[vai] itya uktvAjagaraM dehaM tayaktvA sa nahuSò nRpaH divyaM vapuH samAsthAya gatasa taridivama eva ha ॥ 3-178-45 ॥
