[वै] युधिष्ठिरस तम आसाद्य सर्पभॊगाभिवेष्टितम दयितं भरतरं वीरम इदं वचनम अब्रवीत ॥ ३-१७७-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, "Yudhishthira approached his beloved and valiant brother, who was encircled by the coils of a serpent, and spoke these words:"' ॥ 3-177-1 ॥
english translation
कुन्ती मातः कथम इमाम आपदं तवम अवाप्तवान कश चायं पर्वताभॊगप्रतिमः पन्नगॊत्तमः ॥ ३-१७७-२ ॥
'O son of Kunti, how have you fallen into this misfortune? And who is this eminent serpent, whose form resembles a massive mountain?' ॥ 3-177-2 ॥
english translation
स धर्मराजम आलक्ष्य भराता भरातरम अग्रजम कथयाम आस तत सर्वं गरहणादि विचेष्टितम ॥ ३-१७७-३ ॥
'Bhimasena said, "O revered one, this powerful being has seized me as his prey. He is the royal sage Nahusha, cursed to dwell in the form of a serpent."' ॥ 3-177-3 ॥
english translation
[य] देवॊ वा यदि वा दैत्य उरगॊ वा भवान यदि सत्यं सर्पवचॊ बरूहि पृच्छति तवां युधिष्ठिरः ॥ ३-१७७-४ ॥
'Whether you are a god (deva), or a demon (daitya), or a serpent (uraga), Speak the truth of your serpent words - Yudhishthira asks you this.' ॥ 3-177-4 ॥
english translation
किम आहृत्य विदित्वा वा परीतिस ते सयाद भुजंगम किमाहारं परयच्छामि कथं मुञ्चेद भवान इमम ॥ ३-१७७-५ ॥
'Yudhishthira said, "O long-lived one, release my brother of boundless strength. We shall provide you with other sustenance to satisfy your hunger."' ॥ 3-177-5 ॥
