अहं तु शरवर्षैस तान अस्त्रप्रमुदितै रणे नाशक्नुवं पीडयितुं ते तु मां पर्यपीडयन ॥ ३-१७०-३६ ॥
'But I, with showers of arrows and delighting in (using) divine weapons in battle, was unable to afflict them, while they, on the other hand, greatly tormented me.' ॥ 3-170-36 ॥
english translation
ahaM tu zaravarSaisa tAna astrapramuditai raNe nAzaknuvaM pIDayituM te tu mAM paryapIDayana ॥ 3-170-36 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतैः पीड्यमानॊ बहुभिः कृतास्त्रैः कुशलैर युधि वयथितॊ ऽसमि महायुद्धे भयं चागान महन मम ॥ ३-१७०-३७ ॥
'Afflicted by the countless warriors, armed and skilled in battle, I was overwhelmed in that fierce confrontation, and a terrible fear gripped me.' ॥ 3-170-37 ॥

taiH pIDyamAnò bahubhiH kRtAstraiH kuzalaira yudhi vayathitò 'sami mahAyuddhe bhayaM cAgAna mahana mama ॥ 3-170-37 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततॊ ऽहं देवदेवाय रुद्राय परणतॊ रणे सवस्ति भूतेभ्य इत्य उक्त्वा महास्त्रं समयॊजयम यत तद रौद्रम इति खयातं सर्वामित्र विनाशनम ॥ ३-१७०-३८ ॥
'Thereupon, gathering my strength for battle, I bowed to the God of Gods, Raudra, and, uttering 'May welfare attend all beings,' I invoked that mighty weapon, renowned as Raudra, the destroyer of all foes.' ॥ 3-170-38 ॥

tatò 'haM devadevAya rudrAya paraNatò raNe savasti bhUtebhya itya uktvA mahAstraM samayòjayama yata tada raudrama iti khayAtaM sarvAmitra vinAzanama ॥ 3-170-38 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततॊ ऽपश्यं तरिशिरसं पुरुषं नव लॊचनम तरिमुखं षड भुजं दीप्तम अर्कज्वलन मूर्धजम लॊलिहानैर महानागैः कृतशीर्षम अमित्रहन ॥ ३-१७०-३९ ॥
'Then, I beheld a male figure with three heads, nine eyes, and six arms. His hair blazed like fire or the sun, and, O slayer of foes, his attire was made of mighty serpents, flicking their tongues.' ॥ 3-170-39 ॥

tatò 'pazyaM tarizirasaM puruSaM nava lòcanama tarimukhaM SaDa bhujaM dIptama arkajvalana mUrdhajama lòlihAnaira mahAnAgaiH kRtazIrSama amitrahana ॥ 3-170-39 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविभीस ततस तद अस्त्रं तु घॊरं रौद्रं सनातनम दृष्ट्वा गाण्डीवसंयॊगम आनीय भरतर्षभ ॥ ३-१७०-४० ॥
'Saying, 'O best of the Bharatas, this dreadful and eternal Raudra weapon,' I, free from fear, placed it on the Gandiva.' ॥ 3-170-40 ॥

vibhIsa tatasa tada astraM tu ghòraM raudraM sanAtanama dRSTvA gANDIvasaMyògama AnIya bharatarSabha ॥ 3-170-40 ॥
