[वैष्र] युधिष्ठिर धृतिर दाक्ष्यं देशकालौ पराक्रमः लॊकतन्त्रविधानानाम एष पञ्चविधॊ विधिः ॥ ३-१५९-१ ॥

'The lord of treasures said, "O Yudhishthira, patience, skill, the right timing and place, and prowess—these five are the keys to success in human affairs."' ॥ 3-159-1 ॥

[vaiSra] yudhiSThira dhRtira dAkSyaM dezakAlau parAkramaH lòkatantravidhAnAnAma eSa paJcavidhò vidhiH ॥ 3-159-1 ॥

धृतिमन्तश च दक्षाश च सवे सवे कर्मणि भारत पराक्रमविधानज्ञा नराः कृतयुगे ऽभवन ॥ ३-१५९-२ ॥

'O Bharata, in the Krita Yuga, men were steadfast and skilled in their respective duties, and they knew how to demonstrate their prowess.' ॥ 3-159-2 ॥

dhRtimantaza ca dakSAza ca save save karmaNi bhArata parAkramavidhAnajJA narAH kRtayuge 'bhavana ॥ 3-159-2 ॥

धृतिमान देशकालज्ञः सर्वधर्मविधानवित कषत्रियः कषत्रिय शरेष्ठ पृथिवीम अनुशास्ति वै ॥ ३-१५९-३ ॥

'And, O foremost of the Kshatriyas, a Kshatriya who is endowed with patience, understands the propriety of time and place, and is well-versed in all human regulations, alone can govern the world for a long time—in all matters.' ॥ 3-159-3 ॥

य एवं वर्तते पार्थ पुरुषः सर्वकर्मसु स लॊके लभते वीर यशॊ परेत्य च सद्गतिम ॥ ३-१५९-४ ॥

'He who behaves in this manner, O hero, attains fame in this world and a glorious state in the next.' ॥ 3-159-4 ॥

देशकालान्तर परेप्सुः कृत्वा शक्रः पराक्रमम संप्राप्तस तरिदिवे राज्यं वृत्रहा वसुभिः सह ॥ ३-१५९-५ ॥

'By displaying his prowess at the right place and time, Sakra, along with the Vasus, obtained the dominion of heaven.' ॥ 3-159-5 ॥
