भङ्क्त्वा शूलं गदाग्रेण गदायुद्धविशारदः अभिदुद्राव तं तूर्णं गरुत्मान इव पन्नगम ॥ ३-१५७-६६ ॥

'With great might, the skilled mace-fighter swiftly shattered the dart with the end of his mace and charged forward to slay him, much like Garuda rushing to defeat a serpent.' ॥ 3-157-66 ॥

english translation

bhaGktvA zUlaM gadAgreNa gadAyuddhavizAradaH abhidudrAva taM tUrNaM garutmAna iva pannagama ॥ 3-157-66 ॥

सॊ ऽनतरिक्षम अभिप्लुत्य विधूय सहसा गदाम परचिक्षेप महाबाहुर विनद्य रणमूर्धनि ॥ ३-१५७-६७ ॥

'Suddenly, advancing boldly on the battlefield, the mighty-armed warrior leapt into the air, brandishing his mace, and hurled it with a fierce cry.' ॥ 3-157-67 ॥

sò 'natarikSama abhiplutya vidhUya sahasA gadAma paracikSepa mahAbAhura vinadya raNamUrdhani ॥ 3-157-67 ॥

सेन्द्राशनिर इवेन्द्रेण विसृष्टा वातरंहसा हत्वा रक्षः कषितिं पराप्य कृत्येव निपपात ह ॥ ३-१५७-६८ ॥

'Like the thunderbolt wielded by Indra, that mace—swift as the wind and devastating like a plague—struck down the Rakshasa and then fell to the ground.' ॥ 3-157-68 ॥

sendrAzanira ivendreNa visRSTA vAtaraMhasA hatvA rakSaH kaSitiM parApya kRtyeva nipapAta ha ॥ 3-157-68 ॥

तं राक्षसं भीमबलं भीमसेनेन पातितम ददृशुः सर्वभूतानि सिंहेनेव गवां पतिम ॥ ३-१५७-६९ ॥

'Then all the creatures beheld the fearsome Rakshasa, slain by Bhima’s might, much like a bull brought down by a lion.' ॥ 3-157-69 ॥

taM rAkSasaM bhImabalaM bhImasenena pAtitama dadRzuH sarvabhUtAni siMheneva gavAM patima ॥ 3-157-69 ॥

तं परेक्ष्य निहतं भूमौ हतशेषा निशाचराः भीमम आर्तस्वरं कृत्वा जग्मुः पराचीं दिशं परति ॥ ३-१५७-७० ॥

'The remaining Rakshasas, witnessing his fall, rushed eastward, their cries of terror echoing in the air.' ॥ 3-157-70 ॥

taM parekSya nihataM bhUmau hatazeSA nizAcarAH bhImama ArtasvaraM kRtvA jagmuH parAcIM dizaM parati ॥ 3-157-70 ॥
