राक्षसॊ ऽपि तदा भीमं युद्धार्थिनम अवस्थितम अभिदुद्राव संरब्धॊ बलॊ वज्रधरं यथा ॥ ३-१५४-४१ ॥
'And seeing Bhima standing ready for battle, the Rakshasa, filled with fury, rushed at him like Vali charging towards the wielder of the thunderbolt, repeatedly gaping and licking the corners of his mouth.' ॥ 3-154-41 ॥
english translation
rAkSasò 'pi tadA bhImaM yuddhArthinama avasthitama abhidudrAva saMrabdhò balò vajradharaM yathA ॥ 3-154-41 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवर्तमाने तदा ताभ्यां बाहुयुद्धे सुदारुणे माद्रीपुत्राव अभिक्रुद्धाव उभाव अप्य अभ्यधावताम ॥ ३-१५४-४२ ॥
'When a dreadful wrestling match ensued between the two, both the sons of Madri, filled with intense wrath, rushed forward.' ॥ 3-154-42 ॥

vartamAne tadA tAbhyAM bAhuyuddhe sudAruNe mAdrIputrAva abhikruddhAva ubhAva apya abhyadhAvatAma ॥ 3-154-42 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनयवारयत तौ परहसन कुन्तीपुत्रॊ वृकॊदरः शक्तॊ ऽहं राक्षसस्येति परेक्षध्वम इति चाब्रवीत ॥ ३-१५४-४३ ॥
'But Kunti’s son, Vrikodara, smiling, restrained them and said, 'Behold! I am more than a match for this Rakshasa.'' ॥ 3-154-43 ॥

nayavArayata tau parahasana kuntIputrò vRkòdaraH zaktò 'haM rAkSasasyeti parekSadhvama iti cAbravIta ॥ 3-154-43 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptआत्मना भरातृभिश चाहं धर्मेण सुकृतेन च इष्टेन च शपे राजन सूदयिष्यामि राक्षसम ॥ ३-१५४-४४ ॥
'By my own strength, by the aid of my brothers, by my merits, my good deeds, and my sacrifices, I swear that I shall slay this Rakshasa.' ॥ 3-154-44 ॥

AtmanA bharAtRbhiza cAhaM dharmeNa sukRtena ca iSTena ca zape rAjana sUdayiSyAmi rAkSasama ॥ 3-154-44 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइत्य एवम उक्त्वा तौ वीरौ सपर्धमानौ परस्परम बाहुभिः समसज्जेताम उभौ रक्षॊवृकॊदरौ ॥ ३-१५४-४५ ॥
'After these words were spoken, the two heroes, the Rakshasa and Vrikodara, challenging each other, seized each other by the arms.' ॥ 3-154-45 ॥
