[वै] ततस तानि महार्हाणि दिव्यानि भरतर्षभः बहूनि बहुरूपाणि विरजांसि समाददे ॥ ३-१५३-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, "Then, O best of the Bharatas, Bhima began gathering those rare, celestial flowers, vibrant in color and freshly bloomed, in great abundance."' ॥ 3-153-1 ॥
english translation
ततॊ वायुर महाञ शीघ्रॊ नीचैः शर्कर कर्षणः परादुरासीत खरस्पर्शः संग्रामम अभिचॊदयन ॥ ३-१५३-२ ॥
'And then, a fierce and turbulent wind arose, sharp to the touch and hurling gravel, heralding the onset of battle.' ॥ 3-153-2 ॥
english translation
पपात महती चॊल्का सनिर्घाता महाप्रभा निष्प्रभश चाभवत सूर्यश छन्नरश्मिस तमॊवृतः ॥ ३-१५३-३ ॥
'Terrifying meteors streaked across the sky with thunderous roars. Shrouded in darkness, the sun grew pale, its rays obscured and dimmed.' ॥ 3-153-3 ॥

निर्घातश चाभवद भीमॊ भीमे विक्रमम आस्थिते चचाल पृथिवी चापि पांसुवर्षं पपात च ॥ ३-१५३-४ ॥
'As Bhima displayed his formidable prowess, dreadful explosions echoed through the sky. The earth trembled, and showers of dust rained down.' ॥ 3-153-4 ॥

सलॊहिता दिशश चासन खरवाचॊ मृगद्विजाः तमॊवृतम अभूत सर्वं न परज्ञायत किं चन ॥ ३-१५३-५ ॥
'The skies turned crimson, and beasts and birds cried out in piercing tones. Darkness shrouded everything, rendering all indistinguishable.' ॥ 3-153-5 ॥
