धार्मिकान धर्मकार्येषु अर्थकार्येषु पण्डितान सत्रीषु कलीबान नियुञ्जीत करूरान करूरेषु कर्मसु ॥ ३-१४९-४६ ॥

'In religious matters, pious men should be employed; in matters of gain, wise men; in the protection of households, eunuchs; and in all deceitful affairs, cunning individuals.' ॥ 3-149-46 ॥

सवेभ्यश चैव परेभ्यश च कार्याकार्यसमुद्भवा बुद्धिः कर्मसु विज्ञेया रिपूणां च बलाबलम ॥ ३-१४९-४७ ॥

'The propriety or impropriety of the enemy's decisions, as well as their strength or weakness, should be determined through both one's own and the enemy's spies.' ॥ 3-149-47 ॥

savebhyaza caiva parebhyaza ca kAryAkAryasamudbhavA buddhiH karmasu vijJeyA ripUNAM ca balAbalama ॥ 3-149-47 ॥

बुद्ध्या सुप्रतिपन्नेषु कुर्यात साधु परिग्रहम निग्रहं चाप्य अशिष्टेषु निर्मर्यादेषु कारयेत ॥ ३-१४९-४८ ॥

'Favour should be granted to those righteous individuals who seek protection with wisdom; but those who are lawless and disobedient must be punished.' ॥ 3-149-48 ॥

buddhyA supratipanneSu kuryAta sAdhu parigrahama nigrahaM cApya aziSTeSu nirmaryAdeSu kArayeta ॥ 3-149-48 ॥

निग्रहे परग्रहे सम्यग यदा राजा परवर्तते तदा भवति लॊकस्य मर्यादा सुव्यवस्थिता ॥ ३-१४९-४९ ॥

'When a king acts rightly in both restraining (his own impulses) and accepting (good advice or support from others), then the boundaries/order of society become well-established.' ॥ 3-149-49 ॥

nigrahe paragrahe samyaga yadA rAjA paravartate tadA bhavati lòkasya maryAdA suvyavasthitA ॥ 3-149-49 ॥
