तेषां परविशतां तत्र मार्गम आवृत्य भारत दीप्ताक्षं भीषणं रक्षः सॊल्मुकं परत्यदृश्यत ॥ ३-१२-६ ॥
'As the Pandavas entered the forest at this perilous time, a fearsome Rakshasa with flaming eyes appeared before them, brandishing a lighted torch and blocking their path.' ॥ 3-12-6 ॥

बाहू महान्तौ कृत्वा तु तथास्यं च भयानकम सथितम आवृत्य पन्थानं येन यान्ति कुरूद्वहाः ॥ ३-१२-७ ॥
'With outstretched arms and a terrifying countenance, he obstructed the way of the illustrious Kuru dynasty.' ॥ 3-12-7 ॥
english translation
दष्टौष्ठ दंष्ट्रं ताम्राक्षं परदीप्तॊर्ध्व शिरॊरुहम सार्करश्मितडिच चक्रं सबलाकम इवाम्बुदम ॥ ३-१२-८ ॥
'With his eight protruding teeth, coppery-red eyes, and hair blazing upward like a fiery mountain, the Rakshasa resembled a mass of clouds illuminated by the sun's rays or streaked with lightning, adorned with flocks of cranes.' ॥ 3-12-8 ॥

सृजन्तं राक्षसीं मायां महाराव विराविणम मुञ्चन्तं विपुलं नादं सतॊयम इव तॊयदम ॥ ३-१२-९ ॥
'He let out terrifying yells and roared like a thundercloud, creating an illusion of his own fearsome nature.' ॥ 3-12-9 ॥

तस्य नादेन संत्रस्ताः पक्षिणः सर्वतॊदिशम विमुक्तनादाः संपेतुः सथलजा जलजैः सह ॥ ३-१२-१० ॥
'Uttering terrifying howls and roaring like a thunderous raincloud, the fiend began to unleash the illusion inherent to his kind. Hearing that dreadful roar, birds, along with other land and water creatures, began to fall from the sky, crying out in terror.' ॥ 3-12-10 ॥
