ममेदं वचनात तात कृतं ते कर्म दुष्करम वृणीष्व कामान धर्मज्ञ यावतॊ वाञ्छसे हृदा ॥ ३-११६-१६ ॥
'You have, my son, fulfilled this difficult task at my command, being well-versed in virtue. Therefore, whatever wishes may reside in your heart, I am ready to grant them. Speak your desires.' ॥ 3-116-16 ॥
english translation
स वव्रे मातुर उत्थानम अस्मृतिं च वधस्य वै पापेन तेन चास्पर्शं भरातॄणां परकृतिं तथा ॥ ३-११६-१७ ॥
'Thereupon, Rama requested that his mother be restored to life, that he be free from the haunting memory of this cruel act, that he remain untouched by sin, that his brothers regain their former state, that he be unmatched in battle, and that he be granted a long life.' ॥ 3-116-17 ॥
english translation
अप्रतिद्वन्द्व तां युद्धे दीर्घम आयुश च भारत ददौ च सर्वान कामांस ताञ जमदग्निर महातपाः ॥ ३-११६-१८ ॥
'[He granted] invincibility in battle and long life, O Bharata, And Jamadagni, the great ascetic, granted all desired wishes/boons.' ॥ 3-116-18 ॥
english translation
कदा चित तु तथैवास्य विनिष्क्रान्ताः सुताः परभॊ अथानूप पतिर वीरः कार्तवीर्यॊ ऽभयवर्तत ॥ ३-११६-१९ ॥
'However, once, when his sons had gone out as before, the valiant son of Kartavirya, the lord of the coastal region, approached the hermitage.' ॥ 3-116-19 ॥
english translation
तम आश्रमपदं पराप्तम ऋषेर भार्यासमर्चयत स युद्धमदसंमत्तॊ नाभ्यनन्दत तथार्चनम ॥ ३-११६-२० ॥
'Upon arriving at the hermitage, the sage's wife welcomed him hospitably. However, intoxicated by warrior pride, he was displeased with her reception.' ॥ 3-116-20 ॥
