स तु तत्र नरश्रेष्ठस तपॊ घॊरं समाश्रितः फलमूलाम्बुभक्षॊ ऽभूत सहस्रं परिवत्सरान ।। ३-१०७-१३ ।।

sanskrit

'Such was the snowy mountain where the king now found himself. There, the most praiseworthy of men devoted himself to a rigorous regimen of austerity. For a thousand years, he sustained himself solely on water, fruits, and roots.' ।। 3-107-13 ।।

english translation

sa tu tatra narazreSThasa tapò ghòraM samAzritaH phalamUlAmbubhakSò 'bhUta sahasraM parivatsarAna || 3-107-13 ||
