अंशुमन्तं समाहूय असमज्ञः सुतं तदा पौत्रं भरतशार्दूल इदं वचनम अब्रवीत ॥ ३-१०६-६ ॥
'Then, O tiger among the Bharatas, Sagara summoned his grandson, Aṁśumant, son of Asamañjasa, and spoke these words to him.' ॥ 3-106-6 ॥
english translation
षष्टिस तानि सहस्राणि पुत्राणाम अमितौजसाम कापिलं तेज आसाद्य मत्कृते निधनं गताः ॥ ३-१०६-७ ॥
'Those sixty thousand sons of unmatched strength encountered Kapila’s wrath and perished because of me.' ॥ 3-106-7 ॥
english translation
तव चापि पिता तात परित्यक्तॊ मयानघ धर्मं संरक्षमाणेन पौराणां हितम इच्छता ॥ ३-१०६-८ ॥
'And you, my virtuous boy, know that I also had to forsake your father to fulfill my duties as a king and to protect my subjects.' ॥ 3-106-8 ॥
english translation
[य] किमर्थं राजशार्दूलः सगरः पुत्रम आत्मजम तयक्तवान दुस्त्यजं वीरं तन मे बरूहि तपॊधन ॥ ३-१०६-९ ॥
'Yudhishthira said, 'O saint, whose only treasure is your piety! Please tell me why Sagara, the greatest of kings, chose to abandon his own valiant son—an act so difficult for anyone else to contemplate.'' ॥ 3-106-9 ॥
english translation
[ल] असमञ्जा इति खयातः सगरस्य सुतॊ हय अभूत यं शैब्या जनयाम आस पौराणां स हि दारकान खुरेषु करॊशतॊ गृह्य नद्यां चिक्षेप दुर्बलान ॥ ३-१०६-१० ॥
'Lomasa said, 'A son was born to Sagara, named Asamañjasa, the offspring of the princess of Sivi. He would seize the weak children of the townsmen by the throat and, while screaming, cast them into the river.'' ॥ 3-106-10 ॥
