गङ्गावतरणे यत्नं सुमहच चाकरॊन नृपः न चावतारयाम आस चेष्टमानॊ यथाबलम ॥ ३-१०६-३८ ॥
'The ruler of men exerted every effort to bring the Ganges down to the mortal realm. However, despite striving to the utmost of his abilities, he could not achieve his fervent desire.' ॥ 3-106-38 ॥
