एकवासा असंवीतः सुहृच्छॊकविवर्धनः निश्चक्राम तदा राजा तयक्त्वा सुविपुलां शरियम ॥ ३-५८-६ ॥
'Clad in a single piece of cloth, his body exposed and renouncing all his wealth, he deepened the sorrow of his friends as he set out.' ॥ 3-58-6 ॥

दमयन्त्य एकवस्त्रा तं गच्छन्तं पृष्ठतॊ ऽनवियात स तया बाह्यतः सार्धं तरिरात्रं नैषधॊ ऽवसत ॥ ३-५८-७ ॥
'Clad in a single piece of cloth, Damayanti followed Nala as he left the city. Upon reaching the outskirts, Nala stayed there with his wife for three nights.' ॥ 3-58-7 ॥

पुष्करस तु महाराज घॊषयाम आस वै पुरे नले यः सम्यग आतिष्ठेत स गच्छेद वध्यतां मम ॥ ३-५८-८ ॥
'However, Pushkara, O king, proclaimed throughout the city that anyone who offered assistance to Nala would be condemned to death.' ॥ 3-58-8 ॥

पुष्करस्य तु वाक्येन तस्य विद्वेषणेन च पौरा न तस्मिन सत्कारं कृतवन्तॊ युधिष्ठिर ॥ ३-५८-९ ॥
'Because of these words and aware of Pushkara's malice toward Nala, the citizens, O Yudhishthira, ceased to show him any hospitality.' ॥ 3-58-9 ॥

स तथा नगराभ्याशे सत्कारार्हॊ न सत्कृतः तरिरात्रम उषितॊ राजा जलमात्रेण वर्तयन ॥ ३-५८-१० ॥
'Though deserving of hospitality, Nala went unregarded, spending three nights on the outskirts of the city, subsisting only on water.' ॥ 3-58-10 ॥
