बृहदश्व उवाच दमयन्ती ततॊ दृष्ट्वा पुण्यश्लॊकं नराधिपम उन्मत्तवद अनुन्मत्ता देवने गतचेतसाम ॥ ३-५७-१ ॥

'Vrihadaswa said, 'Bhima's daughter, the level-headed Damayanti, seeing the righteous king maddened and deprived of his senses by the dice, was filled with alarm and grief, O king.'' ॥ 3-57-1 ॥

english translation

bRhadazva uvAca damayantI tatò dRSTvA puNyazlòkaM narAdhipama unmattavada anunmattA devane gatacetasAma ॥ 3-57-1 ॥

भयशॊकसमाविष्टा राजन भीमसुता ततः चिन्तयाम आस तत कार्यं सुमहत पार्थिवं परति ॥ ३-५७-२ ॥

'Overcome with fear and sorrow, the daughter of Bhima then reflected deeply on how to address the great issue concerning the king.' ॥ 3-57-2 ॥

bhayazòkasamAviSTA rAjana bhImasutA tataH cintayAma Asa tata kAryaM sumahata pArthivaM parati ॥ 3-57-2 ॥

सा शङ्कमाना तत्पापं चिकीर्षन्ती च तत्प्रियम नलं च हृतसर्वस्वम उपलभ्येदम अब्रवीत ॥ ३-५७-३ ॥

'Turning to her nurse and maidservant Vrihatsena, renowned for her skills and devoted to her, she spoke these words, her voice gentle and clear.' ॥ 3-57-3 ॥

sA zaGkamAnA tatpApaM cikIrSantI ca tatpriyama nalaM ca hRtasarvasvama upalabhyedama abravIta ॥ 3-57-3 ॥

बृहत्सेने वरजामात्यान आनाय्य नलशासनात आचक्ष्व यद धृतं दरव्यम अवशिष्टं च यद वसु ॥ ३-५७-४ ॥

'O Vrihatsena, go and summon the councillors in Nala's name. Inform them of what wealth and possessions have been lost, as well as what remains.' ॥ 3-57-4 ॥

bRhatsene varajAmAtyAna AnAyya nalazAsanAta AcakSva yada dhRtaM daravyama avaziSTaM ca yada vasu ॥ 3-57-4 ॥

ततस ते मन्त्रिणः सर्वे विज्ञाय नलशासनम अपि नॊ भागधेयं सयाद इत्य उक्त्वा पुनर आव्रजन ॥ ३-५७-५ ॥

'Then all the ministers, comprehending Nala's command, Saying 'Is there a share for us too?', departed again.' ॥ 3-57-5 ॥

tatasa te mantriNaH sarve vijJAya nalazAsanama api nò bhAgadheyaM sayAda itya uktvA punara Avrajana ॥ 3-57-5 ॥
