[दरौ] अत्राप्य उदाहरन्तीमम इतिहासं पुरातनम परह्लादस्या च संवादं बलेर वैरॊचनस्य च ॥ ३-२९-१ ॥

'Draupadi continued, 'On this matter, the ancient story of the conversation between Prahlada and Vali, the son of Virochana, is cited as an example.'' ॥ 3-29-1 ॥

english translation

असुरेन्द्रं महाप्राज्ञं धर्माणाम आगतागमम बलिः पप्रच्छ दैत्येन्द्रं परह्लादं पितरं पितुः ॥ ३-२९-२ ॥

'One day, Vali, the great Asura king and wise leader of the Daityas, inquired of his grandfather Prahlada, who was renowned for his profound wisdom and mastery of the principles of duty.' ॥ 3-29-2 ॥

english translation

कषमा सविच छरेयसी तात उपाहॊ तेज इत्य उत एतन मे संशयं तात यथावद बरूहि पृच्छते ॥ ३-२९-३ ॥

'O revered one, is forgiveness more virtuous, or is might and energy superior? I am uncertain about this matter. Please enlighten me, O master of duty, and tell me which of these is truly more meritorious.' ॥ 3-29-3 ॥

english translation

शरेयॊ यद अत्र धर्मज्ञ बरूहि मे तद असंशयम करिष्यामि हि तत सर्वं यथावद अनुशासनम ॥ ३-२९-४ ॥

'O wise one, tell me which of these is more righteous. Without doubt, I will follow your guidance and adhere to the instructions you provide.' ॥ 3-29-4 ॥

english translation

तस्मै परॊवाच तत सर्वम एवं पृष्टः पितामहः सर्वनिश्चयवत पराज्ञः संशयं परिपृच्छते ॥ ३-२९-५ ॥

'Thus questioned by Vali, his wise grandfather, well-versed in all principles, replied to his grandson, addressing the resolution of his doubts with clarity and authority.' ॥ 3-29-5 ॥
