स राजानं कुन्तिभॊजम अब्रवीत सुमहातपाः भिक्षाम इच्छाम्य अहं भॊक्तुं तव गेहे विमत्सर ॥ ३-२८७-६ ॥

'And that person of great ascetic merit, addressing King Kuntibhoja, said, ‘O king, free from pride, I wish to dwell in your household as a guest, living upon the food you offer me in alms.’' ॥ 3-287-6 ॥

english translation

sa rAjAnaM kuntibhòjama abravIta sumahAtapAH bhikSAma icchAmya ahaM bhòktuM tava gehe vimatsara ॥ 3-287-6 ॥

न मे वयलीकं कर्तव्यं तवया वा तव चानुगैः एवं वत्स्यामि ते गेहे यदि ते रॊचते ऽनघ ॥ ३-२८७-७ ॥

'Neither you nor your attendants must ever act in a way that might displease me. If it pleases you, O sinless one, I shall dwell in your house on this condition.' ॥ 3-287-7 ॥

english translation

na me vayalIkaM kartavyaM tavayA vA tava cAnugaiH evaM vatsyAmi te gehe yadi te ròcate 'nagha ॥ 3-287-7 ॥

यथाकामं च गच्छेयम आगच्छेयं तथैव च शय्यासने च मे राजन नापराध्येत कश चन ॥ ३-२८७-८ ॥

'I shall depart when I choose and return at my will, and no one shall cause me offence—be it in matters of food or rest.' ॥ 3-287-8 ॥

english translation

yathAkAmaM ca gaccheyama AgaccheyaM tathaiva ca zayyAsane ca me rAjana nAparAdhyeta kaza cana ॥ 3-287-8 ॥

तम अब्रवीत कुन्तिभॊजः परीतियुक्तम इदं वचः एवम अस्तु परं चेति पुनश चैनम अथाब्रवीत ॥ ३-२८७-९ ॥

'Then Kuntibhoja cheerfully spoke unto him, ‘So be it, and even more.’ And again he said unto him,' ॥ 3-287-9 ॥

tama abravIta kuntibhòjaH parItiyuktama idaM vacaH evama astu paraM ceti punaza cainama athAbravIta ॥ 3-287-9 ॥

मम कन्या महाब्रह्मन पृथा नाम यशस्विनी शीलवृत्तान्विता साध्वी नियता न च मानिनी ॥ ३-२८७-१० ॥

'O wise one, I have an illustrious daughter named Pritha. She is of excellent character, steadfast in her vows, chaste, and of disciplined senses.' ॥ 3-287-10 ॥

mama kanyA mahAbrahmana pRthA nAma yazasvinI zIlavRttAnvitA sAdhvI niyatA na ca mAninI ॥ 3-287-10 ॥
