तम उवाचाथ सावित्री रजनी वयवगाहते शवस्ते सर्वं यथावृत्तम आख्यास्यामि नृपात्मज ॥ ३-२८१-७१ ॥
'Thereupon, Savitri addressed him, saying, "The night deepens. I shall, O prince, relate everything to you on the morrow.' ॥ 3-281-71 ॥
english translation
उत्थिष्ठॊत्तिष्ठ भद्रं ते पितरौ पश्य सुव्रत विगाढा रजनी चेयं निवृत्तश च दिवाकरः ॥ ३-२८१-७२ ॥
'Arise, arise, and may all blessings be upon you! O steadfast one, come and behold your parents. The sun has long since set, and the night grows deeper.' ॥ 3-281-72 ॥
english translation
नक्तंचराश चरन्त्य एते हृष्टाः करूराभिभाषिणः शरूयन्ते पर्णशब्दाश च मृगाणां चरतां वने ॥ ३-२८१-७३ ॥
'Those nocturnal wanderers, with their eerie cries, roam about joyfully. Sounds arise from the forest dwellers as they tread softly through the woods.' ॥ 3-281-73 ॥
english translation
एताः शिवा घॊरनादा दिशं दक्षिणपश्चिमाम आस्थाय विरुवन्त्य उग्राः कम्पयन्त्यॊ मनॊ मम ॥ ३-२८१-७४ ॥
'These dreadful shrieks of jackals, echoing from the south and east, cause my heart to tremble with fear!' ॥ 3-281-74 ॥
english translation
[सत्यवान] वनं परतिभयाकारं घनेन तमसा वृतम न विज्ञास्यसि पन्थानं गन्तुं चैव न शक्ष्यसि ॥ ३-२८१-७५ ॥
'Satyavan then said, "Shrouded in deep darkness, the wilderness assumes a dreadful aspect. You will not be able to discern the path, and therefore, will not be able to proceed."' ॥ 3-281-75 ॥
